A Day of Work
by Kaitlyn Whiteside

You go out to do a day of work.
You cut a tree get hot and wish there were a breeze.
You mow the lawn get tired, and yawn.
You want to go to the bar but you know you have to wash the car.
You hear a bark and know it is getting dark.
You go in the pool and it is cool.
You say ahh what a day of work!

Congratulations!

Her Gaze of Medieval Times

From the castle the sound of screams were heard
Her heart torn and her mouth without a word
The darkness of the walls caved her in
The small hairs on her back stood up from her skin
Her dress a light blue, embroidered gold
The wrinkles on her gown, fold upon fold
Her hair long and thick, as dark as the skies
At first glance you would gaze at her eyes
Bloodshot they were, filled with tears
She dashed down the hall to escape her fears
The steps to the door felt like eternal torture
"My people!" she though. "My world in danger!"
As she opened the door she saw the cursed sight and whaled...
"How could I fail my kingdom? I couldn't have failed!"
Bodies of lost knights scattered on the ground
Families grasping their children dashing around
The remains of animals left from battle abandoned, alone
Blood and destruction everywhere, the battle truly was shown
From the village she heard deadly screams from babies and mothers
Suddenly she thought... "What will happen to the surviving others?"
She clapsed to the ground and began to cry
The smell of smoke burnt her eyes.
Suddenly she felt a tap upon her back
"Is it a evil knight going to attack?"
No, it was a dog gimping on one leg
She thought he wanted some help because he started to beg
But alas no he wanted her to rise on her feet
She smiled at the K-9 who stood up from defeat
She asked "What is your name oh four legged one?"
The eyes of the dog reflected light, perhaps from the sun?
Turning around all the princess saw was the works of the devil
Standing up she suddenly realized and said... "Let thou understand that to burden ones thought is to cowardice at the sight of evil."

I Believe The Future is...

I Believe The Future is...
A Mystery!
No catastrophe
Something people right now won't see
Not even you or me
Don't think of it in a negitive way
Only think of a glorious day
Global Warming won't take the earth!
Not for what wildlife is worth
Buildings won't come towering over
Only the trees above our shoulders
No heat flows or second ice age
Look beyond and turn the page
To a world with a happy ever after ending
With all the time people are spending
To mend the world of bruises and cuts
Don't sit and be unpositive nuts
Get up and say "The world will survive!"
The planet's forests will bloom and thrive
Right before our very eyes
So get up and be wise
Go to a shelter, help, be kind
Seek for the future the earth will find
No sad negativity
A story like mine, POSITIVITY!!!

Lullaby

When I'm feeling sad I sing a lullaby
And then my green eyes start to cry
Puddles of water stream over my shoulder
I'm pouting and crying and tearing all over
I see green, more blue, now my voice haults
Am I seeing gentle figures performing a waltz?
I feel their light wings encircle my hair
They buzz and hum and dance with great care
With toes so light they touch like red ants
Standing up I look around and straighten my pants
My clothes wet and filthy, I'm not in my room
I hope, I plead..."I'll be home soon!"
I'm in a land with dark sparkles, with dew on it's leaves
Pinching my skin are the fey wings of he's and she's
"Ouch!" I cry, more tears start to spout
They smirk and giggle and make game of my pout!
Pulling my hair, making a grin
One little fairy kicked me straight in the shin
How rude, how vulgar, they spit in my face
I grimaced at the fact I'm on a wild goose chase
Through trees and bark I hasten my pace
"Oh Lord," I think. "I can't win this race!"
My knees collaspse perching by a lake
"Water!" I think, a drink I can take
As I peer at the water I realize my fate
"Stuck in a land, dark, with frost bitten air," Ithought as I ate.
I sit on the ground
Blood from my skin pouring all around
The cold water does no good, as it should
I want to go home, I wish I could
Warming my cheeks were the young tears from my eyes
"I know what I'll do! I'll sing one of my lullabies..."

When I'm feeling sad I sing a lullaby
And then my green eyes start to cry
Puddles of water stream over my shoulder
I'm pouting and crying and tearing all over
I see green, more blue, again my voice halts
I see reddened figures stampeding a waltz
They grab my brown locks and I'm plunged into the water
My head becomes light, as I'm drowning my coarse starts to alter
I see a light through my eyes
And to my surprise
It's the sun from my bedroom window
It was all a dream and that's all I need to know.

Filly

Funny Filly is friends with Jilly
Who doesn't get along with Milly
Who is obviously sisters with Dilly
Who tries so hard not to be silly
But her nose is frankly very chilly
But Definitely not as much as Gilly's
Who has a goat that is named Willy
So whether it's Jilly, Milly, or Dilly
Maybe even Gilly or Willy
Either way My all time favorite will always be FILLY

Perfluga

Perfluga is a word I love to say
Because at tough times it saves the day
So if its raining outside and your stuck in your room
Just shout out "perfluga!" to end your doom
So if you're being bullied by a selfish fool
Just tell them "perfluga!" and you'll win the duel
Yes Perfluga is a funny word
But the things it can do are not absurd

Puppies

Puppies growl and puppies play
Puppies sit in the sun all day
Puppies smile and puppies cry
Puppies will bring a twinkle to your eye
Puppies follow your commands
And usually have time to lick your hands
Puppies will guard you from any harm
But will always cuddle up in your arms
Well puppies are puppies as you can see
So I hope you love puppies AS MUCH AS ME!!!!

People are like candy,
Nice people are lifesavers,
Because they make a difference in your life,
Mean people are lemon heads,
Because they may be sour but,
They can turn sweet,
Family is Almond Joy,
Because family is nutty,
Everyone else is,
In the mixture of candy,
You have to try one before,
You decide you don’t like it,

Friendship for One

Everyone has a friend,
And all of the friendships end,
You think it will last forever,
But it won’t stay forever,
But one friend never breaks away,
Because that friend is here to stay,
Because they are true,
True to you,
Because they are here for you,
Whether you want them to or not,
Because your friendship is solid like a rock,
That friend is,
A never ending friendship,
That will never stop

The Tropical Rain Forest

You can hear the wings of birds flapping
while the sun is awaking
that the Rain Forest has begun a new day again
The monkeys are swinging to and fro
and the hippos are hungry as they go
The snakes are wanting something to eat
the ants and insects are scurrying on their feet
You walk on the Earth's soft soil
and the leaves crunch under you feet
you are on the lookout
to see anything that might be interesting
You see a moose in the river
making a loud noise
Nearby is a tiger
crouching and stalking very slow
A gorilla's footstep thunders the ground
you walk away quickly
hoping not to be found
You eat a earthworm and it's
not the best tasting thing
a sweet mango is hanging
on a tree near you
and you have the entire thing
You see most interesting things
more than anything you have ever seen

The beach is where you want to be
Where the waves are crashing from the sea
The sun is shinning everywhere you go
You want to do something but you just don't know
Throwing Frisbee is fun for you
This might be the thing you want to do
Beach Volleyball is a great game
Much is needed, like skill and practice, before you can play
Surfing needs balance when on the big waves
You can't resist having just a short delay
A day on the beach is all that you are thinking

Amusement Antics

As the sun rises to start a new day,
My alarm clock rings loudly:
It is time to go to the amusement park and play!
We arrive at the park early, so as to get a good spot,
But to our dismay, there are none in the lot.
We eventually get to the entrance,
And get our tickets punched,
So after the anthem plays,
We can splurge on advance!
There are many rides in this park,
Roller coasters that send screaming riders upside down,
And tilt-a-whirls that send you round and round.
But we mustn’t forget the lunch stands,
For amusement park foods are delicious,
And we don’t want to miss chips and fish!
As the sun goes down to end the day,
My legs are sore after my wonderful play.
So as I crawl back in bed,
With the owls hooting overhead,
I will never forget my day at the amusement park,
With its rides, food, and noisy carnival bark!

The Door

I am entering a new stage of my life,
I am opening doors that I have never been behind before,
Slowly the first door creaks open,
All that I have learned in my short childhood
Flashes through my mind, a dark corridor comes into view,
A corridor that I have to fill with light,
I pick up my foot, I step across the doorway,
A chill comes over me, the comfort around me fades,
I am now in the real world.

He plays a slow mellow melody
Never does he fail to strike a perfect note

The Fish That Had a Wish

I once had a pet fish
Who made a strong wish
On a star passing by
Up high in the sky.
His wish came true
Then he flew.
Away to a place
Where the people wore fancy lace
Sipping tea by the hour
No reason to cower.
He then flew to a land of tranquility
Of great peace and prosperity
Of martial arts
And calm peaceful hearts
Of great and ancient emperors
Some of great tempers.
The fish got what he wanted
Out of his wish so he panted
“This is getting tiring”
“I think my wish is expiring”
“So instead of visiting Rome,”
“I think I shall go home.”
He then flew to his house
Where all was quiet, even the mouse
He then plopped into his bowl
With his tired old soul
Seen all the sights he had needed to see
But no matter what he has seen he belongs to me.

Babe Ruth the Baseball Legend

Historical couplets
Whack, Whack It’s another home run
Forget about calling him star let’s just call him a sun.
He’s hit fifty four in a single season
In the sunny and warm, in the cloudy and freezin
He’s a home run epidemic
Some one get this guy a medic.

He’s burning the charts
There falling apart.
His pays larger than the presidents
His house is huge but he and his wife are the only residents
He started as a Boston but now he's a yank
He now has enough money to fill his own bank
It’s the World Series in 1923
When Ruth helped start history
He whacked the ball into the stands
This was caught by one of those lucky fans.
He did this not once but twice
The power of his hit was so precise
This settled the game two to four
His face was all over the news once more.
When he decided to quit
They counted his big hits
They counted seven hundred fourteen
The fans started to scream
A record was set
This caused people to fret
When would a new star appear?
And to ask if this time is coming near.

The Terrible T.

The Terrible T. hates me
The Terrible T. I despise
Becareful not to look into her red gleaming eyes
All her stuff is covered in bugs
I dreadfully have to mention that I think I saw some slugs
Shrunken heads, alligator feet, and frog eyes too
All soon to be in a terrible tasting brew
Every time she sees a plant or flour
It will wilt after being in a room with her for an hour
You might feel an earth quake
But its really the fear of standing next to her making you shake
She watches you anywhere at any time
It would feel better to be in a room covered with mold and grime
There is absolutely no way
That you could spend a day
With the horrible, Terrible T.

I'm Listening From A Distance

I'm listening from a distance
Waiting and hurting
Wondering if you care
I just can't bare
The fight
The fight
With all its might
It makes me sad
It makes me mad
To see you fight
For just a girl
She's blinded you with a mist of charm
That you thought would cause no harm
But it did
And worst of all is that you don't even care
Which you know was not fair
You've fallen quite hard
For this girl
This mangy girl
She's stolen your heart with a flip of her hair
And you just couldn't bare not to stare
So I think I speak for all
When I say
Break the spell
If your going to fight
Fight
But fight for the right reasons....

Do you want to go explore,

When you look behind a waterfall,

when you move throughout?

Don’t Make Me!

Please don’t make me write a poem,
I’m begging you please don’t!
Don’t make me write another one,
I’m telling you I won’t!
They say it sounds better when it rhymes,
but sometimes it does not.
Let me write it another time,
I’m tired of writing a lot.
You say, “It’ll be good for me.”
But I keep asking why.
If I write another poem,
I think I might just cry!
So please don’t make me write a poem,

And you’re ready for the worst.

That’s when it’s there for you.
When you are sad,
and all that you do is cry.
And you feel like you’re living a lie.
That’s when it’s there for you.
No matter what you feel,
There is something that can never leave your side.
Don’t bother trying to hide,
Writing will always be there.

The Lonely Road

The road less traveled,
Someone might have said,
It’s the one that I like
For distractions are dead.

A light winding path
With weavings of shade
From welcoming trees
That the soft soil has made

With a glorious solitude
And a refreshing hushed peace
I love this place more
than any other street.

The breeze coming through
The tunnel of trees
It clears out my mind
and makes me feel free.

The calm is my friend
The rustling leaves are my music
Of this lonely road,
I’ll never grow sick

For the serenity here
Is so hard to find
In this hectic world,
This haven is mine.

The Way Everyone Feels About Homework

Oh homework I hate you,

You make me so mad!

You’re worse than mom’s meatloaf-

And that’s pretty bad.

I’d rather be stung

By a million bees

Or eat all my veggies-

Including the peas!

I’d rather be swallowed

By a twenty foot snake

Than do you oh homework,

Where happiness breaks.

Oh homework I hate you,

You make me so mad!

If you burst into flames,

Who wouldn’t be glad?

I train dogs to eat you

I bet everyone does,

Because you, oh homework

Are nothing to love.

I’d tear you to shreds,

Throw you into the grill

If only I had a chance

To have that kind of thrill

And yet there are some

That still hand you out

And they are the teachers

The kids want them out!

One Blank Page

In a small town in Scotland they sell books with one blank page.
I sometimes wonder about these books, whether they are young or old of age.
I think it is quite funny, to turn the page and see
A plain, white, blank one, where something should really be.
No fairies, dragons, unicorns, glitter
Just a white page, as blank and white as winter
This is a situation that is quite hard to gage
Since in a small town in Scotland, they sell books with one blank page.

The first snowfall arrives like a timid deer
It covers the once bright green grass with a light, white powder
Then frosts the windows of the houses

But as the cloud parts, and the snow ceases to fall
Over the small town
It leaves the beginning of winter to come.

He likes to see
Lots of squirrels

His tail is curly
And his belly is pearly.
He likes to dash
While looking like a flash.
He tends to run away
When forgetting to "stay."
Though he knows it's a loss
When his bone gets tossed.
When he does tricks
His favorite treats he gets.
